Coaching Requirements ( Step by Step ) - Head & Assistants

Step # 1 ( Liability Issue - Needs to be done prior to going on the ice )

USA Hockey Registration

Annual Registration. Cost: $ 47 ( Paid by ALHA ). Registration is done by the Association's Registrar and submitted to USA Hockey. A copy of the registration is forwarded to the Coach via email ( Save for future registrations. Coaches unique USA # will be needed at times below when prompted ).


Step # 2 (Needs be completed prior to approving the Offical Team Roster by the MN Hockey Registrar. Note: Need an Approved Roster before the Team can play games)

MN Hockey Screening / Background Check

Free - ( Every other year requirement ). Will need to create a Sports Engine unique Username and Password. Must be completed before any contact with players (On or Off Ice) along with being added to a Roster and approved by MN Hockey.

SafeSport Registration

Free - See Link for SafeSport Registration / On-Line Training ( required every year). Must be completed before any contact with players (On or Off Ice) along with being added to a Roster and approved by MN Hockey.

USA Hockey - Age Specific Modules ( On-Line ) - 1 time training for each Module

Fee ( $ 10 ) - Forward Receipt ( Registration Confirmation Email ) to Treasurer for reimbursement. Age Specific to the level you are coaching: Under 10 / Squirt, Under 12 / Peewee, Under 15 / Bantam or Under 16 / Junior Gold / Midget. Needs to be completed prior to the Roster being approved by the MN Hockey.


STEP # 3 - CONCUSSION TRAINING ( Must be on file with the Association )

CONCUSSION CERTIFICATION 

According to Minnesota State Law, all coaches and officials must receive initial training regarding concussions. Minnesota Hockey requires coaches to participate in refresher training at least once every year thereafter. Each coach must complete and provide a certification and acknowledgement form to the association outlining the coach's understanding of his/her responsibilities related to concussion prevention and management prior to participating in any team activities. Print completed certification via one of the options on the bottom of this form. Attach certification to the form and turn into the Coaches Rep for filing with the Association. Note: Age Specific Module Training Option is only good for Coaches doing one in 2019 ( Age Specific Modules have been updated with Concussion Training ). If a Coach has completed their Module or Modules from previous seasons,  they will have to pick another option on the bottom of this form.

Age Specific Module - 2019 Registration Only.

National Federation of State High School Association: https://nfhslearn.com/courses/61064/concussion-in-sports. Allow 45 minutes to complete ( Free ).

Training provided through other youth sport programs.

 


Step # 4 ( Needs to be completed by 12/31 of the current season )

USA Hockey - Coaches Clinics ( CEP ) - Progression Model

Fee ( $ 45 ). Forward Receipt ( Registration Confirmation Email ) to Treasurer for reimbursement. Failure to complete by 12/31 will result in a "Red Line" off the Official Team Roster and will not be allowed to coach games until complete.

CEP Level # 1 - Year 1 ( One Day Class )

CEP Level # 2 - Year 2 ( One Day Class )

CEP Level # 3 - Year 3 ( One Day Class ) - * Good for 2 Years

Year 5 Options

CEP Level # 3 Recertification ( On-Line ) - Track # 1 - * Good for 2 Years

or

CEP Level # 4 - No Expiration ( Two Day Classes )

Year 7 Options

CEP Level # 3 Recertification ( On-Line ) - Track # 2 - * Good for 2 Years

or

CEP Level # 4 - No Expiration ( Two Day Classes )

Year 9 Option

CEP Level # 4 Only - No Expiration ( Two Day Classes )

USA Hockey - Level 3 Recertification ( Track # 1 or # 2 )

Fee ( $ 55 ). Forward receipt ( Registration Confirmation Email ) to Treasurer for reimbursement.

USA Hockey Portal ( Managed by the Association's Registrar )

All requirements above once completed are automatically uploaded from USA Hockey and MN Hockey into the USA Hockey Portal.

All Player and Coaches USA Hockey Registrations are processed and Rosters are generated from the Portal and forwarded to the Head Coach and Team Manager for the Team Book. Note- Team Book ( Approved / Stamped Roster, Scorebook Stickers and Coaches Cards ) should be available at each game. Tournaments will require this information at Check-In of first game.

Coaches Pay Model ( Note: All Requirements above needs to be completed prior to any compensation. Any compensation $ 600 and over in the calendar year will result in a 1099 from ALHA - Will need SS # to be filed ). 

Head: ( 1st Half Pay - Fall, 2nd Half Pay - Jan )

Squirt / U10 - $ 1000.00

Peewee / U12 - $ 1500.00

Bantam / U15 - $ 2000.00

Head Coach Incentive / Retention Pay:

$ 100 / Consecutive Year of "A" Level Head Coaching Experience ( up to ten years ).

$ 50 / Consecutive Year of "B" / "C" Level Coaching Experience ( up to ten years ).

Assistant Coaches: ( Paid in the Fall )

$ 1000.00 Team ( 2 - Assistants - $ 500 / $ 500, 3 - Assistants - $ 333 / $ 333 / $ 333 for example ).

Non-Parent - Districts / Regions / State Reimbursement Policy

Mileage (Industry Rate) & Hotel Expense - Expense Report (Mileage) and Hotel Receipt required (Submit to Treasurer).

Other:

League Scheduling Meetings ( Coaches schedule games w/ other District 9 Teams )

Bantam / Peewee / U12 - Oct in Rochester

Squirt / U10 - Nov in Rochester

Away Tournaments ( All Teams will have a Home Tournament )

Bantam, Peewee, U12 & U15 - Up to 3.

Squirt & U10 - Up to 2.

District 9 Tournaments - Bantam, Peewee, U12 & U15 ( Based on qualifying through Dist. 9 League Play Results - goal to move onto Regions and then State Tournament )

Initial Team Meeting ( shortly after Tryouts )

Discussion Topics:

1. Introductions ( Coaches )

2. Rules, Expectations, Goals, etc.

3. Recruitment of a Team Manager and Team Parents ( Optional ) and Locker Room Monitors

4. Away Tournament Schedule

5. Home Tournament ( Game shifts need to be covered - Team Manager will be get a Work Schedule from our Tournament Director to get filled by the parents - typically 5 to 6 shifts ).

6. Gate Fees for Away Tournaments ( If applicable )

7. Jersey Handout ( Team Tub from Equipment Chairs ).

8. Website - Team Page ( Practice and Game Schedules ).

9. End of the Year Team Banquet ( Optional but recommended - Team Awards, Hand in Jersey's, etc. ).
